Description
In the Spectrospin CMS 47X Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance (FTICR) spectrometer, ions are trapped in the magnetic field of an ion cyclotron setup and mass-selected by specifically modulated radio-frequency pulses. Reactivity studies are performed by leaking or pulsing in neutral reactants and monitoring the time dependencies of the reactant and product ion intensities. Experiments provide information like absolute pseudo first order rate constants, reaction efficiencies, thermodynamic thresholds for reactant and product channels and permit the evaluation of kinetic isotope effects. The instrument has been upgraded by a cluster ion source. Ionization is performed outside the magnet.
